Skip Hire and How To Do It Cheaper

Skip Bin Hire is one of the common services in Melbourne, Australia, used both by residential and commercial customers.  However since nobody wants to spend a lot of money on getting rid of their rubbish, one of the most frequently asked questions is how to make skip hire cheaper?
There is unfortunately no short cuts here and rubbish does take a lot to get rid of, as someone needs to deliver you a bin, pick this bin up, take it either to the tip to dispose of the waste or take it to waste transfer station, where waste is separated and recycled first and then will be taken further to recycling centres or the tip.
When the skip hire seems unusually cheap - look out and question the skip hire supplier about his procedures related to rubbish disposal as when the bin hire is too cheap - there could be a possibility of illegal dumping by a supplier, in which case if discovered or reported to EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in Victoria, then the onus is not only on the operator but on a consumer who hired the bin originally.
There are however legitimate ways of saving cost on skip bin hire, one of the most common ones is by separating the waste on your project and finding a bin supplier, who actually rewards you for hiring a bin for a single type of waste.
While many skip hire suppliers won't be able to offer this option, a Melbourne based company - Need A Skip Now is one such supplier, who offers consumers not only skip bin prices for Mixed Waste and General Waste, but also deeply discount prices for the following waste types:
  • 100% Bricks only skip bin - suitable for bin sizes from 2 cubic meters to 12 cubic meters
  • 100% Soil only skip bin - suitable for bin sizes from 2 cubic meters to 12 cubic meters
  • 100% Concrete only skip bin - suitable for bin sizes from 2 cubic meters to 12 cubic meters
  • 100% Metal Only Skip Bin - suitable for bins from 8 cubic meters to 31 cubic meters
  • Concrete / Bricks / Soil and Metal Bins - suitable for bin sizes from 2 cubic meters to 12 cubic meters
Need A Skip Now operates its own waste transfer station, where bins are taken and all the waste is properly separated, recycled and processed, which allows this bin supplier to offer discounted prices on Bricks bins, Soil Bins, Concrete Bins and Metal Bins.  For an immediate skip bin hire quote either jump on their website or call their friendly customer service team on 1300 605 624 to get access to bin hire specials in Melbourne.
If you are a builder and have various types of waste and have space on your building site to have a couple of bins for various waste types then definitely going for single waste type bin will save you skip hire cost.  If you are working on a project, which doesn't allow space for multiple bins, you might consider a single bin at a time but concentrating on one waste type.  For instance - it is best to hire a separate bin for soil and not mix soil with anything else, as it then becomes what EPA calls a contaminated soil, which might then attract extra cost.
We hope that you find this article helpful and it will assist you in your quest to reduce your skip hire and waste disposal costs. Please don't hesitate to contact us for further questions or recommendations.

Construction and Demolition Waste Disposal

If you are a builder, a renovator, construction site manager an owner builder or a demolisher - one of the important questions in your project is how to manage and dispose of Construction and Demolition Waste.
Some Examples of Construction and Demolition (C & D) Waste are:
  • excavated material such as rock and soil
  • waste asphalt, bricks, concrete, plasterboard, timber and vegetation
  • asbestos and contaminated soil
Each Building or Construction Site, particularly in Melbourne, Vic, Australia must have their Waste Management Plan, which will stipulate how the C &D waste will be managed and legally disposed of.
Due to some creativity or desparate measures due to cashflow issues, some operators have succumbed to the lure of getting rid of waste for free or nearly for free via engaging some dubious waste transporters or making illegal agreements with some rural land owners or farmers.
The EPA has stepped up its illegal dumping force and consequent fines, which range from $7500, or up to $777,300 (5000 penalty units) if prosecuted. EPA can require the waste generator, transporter and receiver to clean up and pay for waste to be taken to a lawful place.
To ensure that your building or construction site is compliant with the local Waste Disposal Laws - it is critical to be associated with a reputable Waste Management Company or a Skip Bin Hire Company,  which will be licensed to transport your waste and then deal with it accordingly to separate and either further recycle or take it to other recycling or material processing facilities.
When dealing with Soil in Particular - it is very important to obtain a soil report first, to determine whether soil is contaminated and to what extent, which will allow you then to select the appropriate Soil Transporter, who will need an appropriate EPA license to transport contaminated soil.
In addition to having Waste Management plans on your Building or Construction Site, the following are the suggestions from the EPA of what information you might be requested from the EPA, should they decide to visit your building site:

Supplying information about waste

At any time, you can be asked to supply information about your waste. Ensure all relevant information is disclosed, such as:
  • waste assessment and categorisation reports, including sampling methodologies and laboratory analysis for potentially harmful materials such as contaminated soil
  • written procedures and plans for managing waste, including handling and storage procedures, and incident response plans
  • development applications, including waste management plans
  • site assessments including contaminated site assessments, and environmental and geotechnical studies.
The maximum penalty for supplying false or misleading information about waste to EPA is $373,104.
For more guidance on how to manage waste and properly dispose of Construction and Demolition Waste from your site, please contact Need A Skip Now - Melbourne's Experienced Skip Bin Supplier, who also runs its own Waste Transfer Station and will ensure complete compliance with the local laws.

Skip Bin Hire for Soil or Dirt in Melbourne Australia

As most of the Melbournians - be it a Builder / Renovator / Concreter or a Swimming Pool Company - we are all looking for ways to minimise our cost of waste or rubbish removal from our building projects.

One of the commonly disposed of waste types in Melbourne during such projects is soil or dirt.  There are various types of dirt, depending on the project, such as:
  • Dirt with some green waste and stones - as part of the landscaping project, would call for a Mixed Heavy type of Bin Hire
  • Dirt from the excavation of Driveway - would be a mixture of Concrete and Soil - and would also be suitable for a reduced priced Skip Bin for Concrete and Soil recyclable Waste
  • Dirt from deep excavation - such as digging for a swimming pool - will qualify for a 100% soil bin, which is a discounted price from the mixed heavy waste types.
Dirt - especially wet dirt after some rains - will be very dense and very heavy, hence - when choosing a bin hire company - be sure to enquire whether there is an additional charge at the end of hire for extra weight.

Aim to find an all-inclusive up-front price for bin hire for Dirt / Soil, regardless of the weight, so that there are no hidden surprises on the pickup of the bin.

Generally, bins for Soil / Dirt would be offered from 2 cubic meters up to 6 or 8 cubic meters.  Only a few companies in Melbourne would have powerful enough trucks to lift up to 10 or 12 cubic meters bin of soil.

One has to be careful when loading the bin - as there is a significant difference of how much you can fit into a bin if manually filling it with wheelbarrows or loading it with a bob cat or an excavator.  The danger of loading it with an excavator  and compacting the soil in the bin can result in seriously overloading the bin (weight wise) and making it too heavy for the truck to lift.  Prior to hiring a bin - enquire what is the maximum weight the truck is able to lift, thus it will help you to estimate whether you can compact the soil or not.

As soil is a recyclable material in Australia - you should always expect to pay LESS for Soil / Dirt than you would pay for a Mixed Heavy Builders Waste, which is normally a combination of: Soil / bricks / Concrete / Clay and sometimes even General Waste.

Companies, which have their own waste transfer station - would be most suited to provide best prices for Skip Bin Hire for Soil, as they have processes to screen and clean this soil and then take it to a soil processing facility, thus diverting it from landfill.

For any Skip Bin Hire questions in Melbourne, Australia - please don't hesitate to post your comments and we'll endevour to answer them promptly.

We wish you in finding the best Bin Hire Company to assist you with your Waste Management and in particular Soil Disposal.

Builders Vs Circus Jugglers

Have you ever wondered how kids might perceive builders?

On our recent visit to the Highett Vic site, where we supply Skip Bins for a Mak Construction & Design Project - we have observed how brick layers were working.

It was noted by our kids that there are a lot of similarities between the builders and the circus pro's, including Jugglers, Tight Rope and many more.  They are more similar than not:

  • both are not afraid of heights
  • strong, fit and flexible
  • great jugglers
  • can walk the tight rope or timber plank, suspended in the air
  • can climb high leathers
  • both are fascinating to watch ;-)

Rubbish Removal Services in Melbourne Australia

In the booming Construction Industry in Australia and Melbourne in particular - Rubbish Removal Services are becoming almost as essentials as oxygen.

As we drive through the streets of Melbourne - being St Kilda, Highett, Bayside, Melbourne CBD, the leafy suburbs of Hawthorn, Glen Iris or the beautiful Mornington Peninsula - we see construction sites popping up left right and centre.  The first thing that grabs our attention is whether the site is clean and organised or whether it's over-flowing with rubbish.

Controlling the waste on the Building / Construction Site  - not only to keep the space clean and safe for the workers and to have available space to store the building materials but also to comply with the strict City Council and EPA regulations - is becoming one of the biggest head aches for the Site Managers.

Having a proper system for managing a construction or building waste in an economical, logical and consistent way can mean the difference between a smooth flow of the project, injury prevention, EPA compliance and prevention of the local residents complaints and having a disorganized, messy site, running out of necessary space and attracting an unnecessary attention from the regulating bodies and the residents.

While there are various methods of waste management on building sites from cages to skip bins and manual labourers, the cost of such services, together with consistency and quality of service can differ greatly from company to company.

Need A Skip Now -  Melbourne's trusted Skip Bin Hire company is offering all of the above services, tailored specifically for each building / construction or demolition site and is a One Stop Shop, where you can get a Free Site Management Consultation,  a proposal of how to manage your site's rubbish, various sizes of skip bins and hook bins from 2 cubic meters to 31 cubic meters large bins and even an excavator and labourers to clean up large sites.

If you are a builder, landscaper, site manager, demolisher or just working on your renovation project -  consider outsourcing your Rubbish Removal to the professionals and give Need A Skip Now a call on 1300 605 624 for an obligation free discussion.

Skip Bin Hire Melbourne is Moving Towards Zero Waste

In a day and age, when a lot of Melbourne, Australia's community is more and more aware of the environmental impacts and is more conscious of their consumer choices, choosing Skip Bin Hire company is no different.

If in the past, the choice of one Skip Bin Provider over another one would be based predominantly on price, today there are more factors to consider.

One of the important factors, when choosing a Skip Bin Supplier, especially for Green Living Accredited Builders - is how this Bin Supplier is dealing with the Waste Collected.

While in the past, some Bin Hire companies could take a bin from customer's site - straight to the tip - the times have certainly changed...

In line with the Victorian Government Policy "Towards Zero Waste" - more progressive Skip Bin Hire Companies are taking the waste to their own Transfer Station or a Recycling Facility, where waste is separated, sorted and processed in some cases, for further recycling and re-purposing.

Need A Skip Now - Melbourne's more progressive Skip Bin Hire and Demolition Company, operates it's own Waste Transfer Station, where all the bins from customer sites are taken for a detailed sorting and separating.  This leading Melbourne's Bin Supplier understands the importance of diverting the waste away from landfill and thus is constantly investing in its' Transfer Station's infrastructure, thus moving Towards Zero Waste goal.

When selecting your Skip Bin Hire Supplier for your next project, you might like to ask: how are you dealing with the Waste Collected and are you focused on moving Towards Zero Waste vision?
